AZURE FILE SYNC SERVICE

Updated: Aug 21, 2021

STORAGE : FILE SYNC SERVICE

Step-By-Step

1) Create a Resource Group : US

2) Create a storage account : abcxyz

3) Go to File Share and create and create storage "myfiles"

4) Upload files in storage

5) Deploy File Sync Service : Go to Azure File Sync

Note : If you navigate away from file sync service then go to resource section to find it.

6) Add Sync Group and file share

Note : Storage Account & Azure Sync Service must be in same group

7) Sync Group will ask for storage account and File share.

8) Download the Azure File Sync agent and install it on all servers you want to sync.

Move from Overview to Access Control (IAM)

9) Once RG , Storage Group and Sync service is properly defined it will going to register the server.

Note : The server must have an additional drive apart from C drive to sync . Also, it won't work for Linux or Mac-OS

10) Now you must be able to see server registered.

11) Now go back to sync group and add Endpoint.

12) Enable cloud tiering and select percentage of space you want server disk to be always free to accommodate new data. For testing purpose you can select 99%, so it means only 1% of data will be kept on server and the rest all will sync to storage.

Also do remember that initially data from server disk and storage will replicate to each other and later from only server to storage.

13) If you go to files property which are present in the server's drive and see it offline then it is present locally and if you see online then it's just a reference link and file is tier to storage.
